FRANKIE SUMMERS – The Best Moments Of 2018
What a lot has changed in the last 12 months in CPW. In January I barely knew what a CPW was. I’d seen some of the talents around at other shows, but didn’t know who any of them are. My first show I came to see wasn’t the best experience but I came out with a decent result in the end. It got me to where I am here today as I decided to become a CPW trainee. I’m just the tip of the iceberg with this. People have come and gone. A whole new show has been created, championships have made the rounds and been traded in shocking fashions many times. We have new heroes and villains to yell our feelings for.
We’ve had some fantastic moments, some great memories and some wonderful achievements for people on the roster. This year, we’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve been angry and overjoyed. We’ve had our darkest hour and overcome it and come out on the other side stronger than ever. So here is the first of my top 10 greatest moments of CPW in 2018. I’ll break down why I’ve picked these moments as they happen. Prepare for a trip down memory lane. If you’re wondering where some of these moments are, I’m doing another list for most shocking moments of the year as well. This celebrates achievement, effort and over all feel good moments, the next will be moments that made our jaws drop. Starting off with-
10. Visiting University Hospital for Christmas.
Now CPW is know for its amazing wrestling talent, great story telling and its colourful list of characters. However sometimes we have to take a more serious edge and give back to our local community as we love to do. On 23rd December, the day after the Xmas Bash, Mr Richards, Will Starr, FIFI, and a host of others went to visit the sick and terminally ill children’s ward at University Hospital. They went bearing gifts and good tidings which brought a smile to the children and the staff at the hospital at this special time of year. It feels good for us to reach out to those less fortunate than us, and to give some love to those who can’t be with their families at Christmas for one reason or another. The staff gave those who attended a certificate as a token of their gratitude. They touched the hearts of those children that day and I’m sure some stories from the day will be revealed soon. This may just the beginning, I’m sure 2019 will bring even more charity work and more helping out in the local community.
9. Stevie W wins the Ruler of the Galaxy Tournament
Stevie W has had quite the year in CPW. He started out as an assistant referee, but he came along to training to work on his fitness and technique as he got the bug to compete from seeing all the action going on first hand. His first match was at the Summer fun day against Isaac Quentin III for the Nextgen Championship. In short he didn’t fair well. However, this awakened something in Stevie and he brought along the chippendale gimmick we all know and love. His next match was at Summerfest 3 against Bashby, which he won, much to my joy as it put a middle finger in the face of Marcel. Next he teamed with George to form Hey Ho Steve-O, which granted them a win over the Iron Dragons. Next came a shock, George and Stevie managed to beat the Merseyside Murder Squad at Gain and Glory. This great run caught the eye of CPW management and he was allowed a qualifying match in the Ruler of the Galaxy Tournament. He managed to win in a hard fought match against the Notorious Imperial Dragon. This got him a shot in the semi finals against Fifi, and with help from Dragon he managed to get the win. Then in the finals he took on and beat Tom Lindsay after Will Starr wasn’t able to compete anymore. This was met with ceremony and applause and a confetti cannon fire from myself. Stevie was overwhelmed by this win and it was rightly deserved. He’s fought hard deserves every piece of glory he has gained. Well done Stevie, we can’t wait to seewhat will come next.
8. Will Starr shoots to the top.
At the beginning of 2018 Will Starr was Nextgen champion, he was knee deep in a rivalrywith Dan Evans which he eventually lost, even if he still kept the belt he won from him. He then lost to Isaac Quentin III after a golden ticket cash in after a cheap knock out by Scott Oberman at Supershow. He fought TJ Sky to a draw, and managed to beat Leyton Simms after TJ was taken out of competition by him. He was cheated out of a win against Alex Conners. He lost a tag match as he and Lucy Sky took on Isaac and Natalie Wild. After a vicious attack to Isaac he got a return match against him at History 5 under British Wrestling Rules. Will got disqualified for getting 3 public warnings, but he
admitted after, at Birmingham Media day, he cared more about revenge at this point

7. The return of Flash Morgan Webster
Flash Morgan Wesbter was one of the first competitors we’ve had compete at CPW and
he has only gone from strength to strength in the meantime. He’s been signed with the
WWE to take part in NXT UK, he was in the UK championship tournament this year as
well but lost in the semi finals. Flash was a CPW champion back in the early days and
had some fantastic matches back then too. After a long time away conquering the scene
he came back to CPW to close out the year in a special exhibition match against Tom
Lindsay. Two of the old guard facing off in the modern era in a dream contest. The two
put on an easy contender for match of the year. This return was nothing short of
triumphant return for Flash after a 20+ minute epic between him and Tom, and what
seemed like a new leaf turn for Tom, in an act of sportsmanship there was a handshake,
however Tom struck a low blow and called for back up. Isaac Quentin came out to help.
Jake Casanova came to help Flash, but to no avail. It took Santa Claus to turn the tide,
which is what tops this off to make it my 7th best moment of the year.
6. The Murder Squad’s Dominant tag title reign.
Now as much as the Murder Squad are hated for the actions they’ve commited over the
last year, it can’t be argued how dominant they’ve been. They have defeated everyone
who has stepped up to take those championships. This has included the House of Beards,
Solas and O’Neil, and they beat Hey Ho Steve-O with Kilbane Michaels at Superstars.
They’ve held those titles for over 150 days now and show no signs of stopping. They say
they can do this all day, They can do this all year at this rate. You have to admit that the
pure skill and technique as well as aggression from Dan Evans combined with the
athleticism and brutality of Scott Oberman have proven to be too much for most. At this
time they have 4 successful title defences. Let’s see how it develops for them this year.
5. Danny O’Neil wins the Golden Ticket
Danny O’Neil hasn’t had the best luck in the past two years, he’s had numerous injuries to
the point where it’s become a cruel punchline to some, however he’s never stopped
fighting and has always been in the picture in some way. He’s had a shot at the tag belts
this year for one which sparked another injury sadly. However Danny against all odds was
put into the death chamber batch at Adrenaline. He was put in there first and was
forced to go against Seth Skyline and Dan Evans at the same time. He was handcuffed to
the ring post and had to outlast 4 other guys after being released. He managed to come
out on top after repeated beatings and having lasted the longest in the match. This
landed him with the golden ticket and a guaranteed title shot somewhere down the line.
4. CPW’s rising stars (Morris, George and Tori Adams)
Now this goes to 3 seperate people for 3 breakout stars this year, for their seperate
achievements between them. Morris for coming back from a long losing streak to gaining
gold and becoming one of the most formidable competitors in CPW right now. We have
George who came in as an answer to an open challenge and has achieved amazing
success in the space of just 6 months. Lastly there’s Victoria Adams who came in to CPW
after it seemed that Natalie Wild had no more opponents to take on. She came in and
beat Natalie in the strongest fashion we have seen in a long time.
For Morris he didn’t get a win from the beginning of the year all the way up until History
5 after pinning Shaun Ruben in the 6 man tag match, after the Bashbys fell apart.
However as fluky as this felt, it turns out it was just the beginning of a change of
fortune. At the very next show at the summer fun day at Henley Green he was put with
Big Eli, and he managed to hoist all 260lbs of him up for the Samoan drop in a jaw
dropping moment. Then the hits just kept coming with wins over Tom Lindsay, Dan Evans
and topping it off with a huge win in a triple threat match to become the first ever CPW
Godiva champion.
Victoria came in as an unknown to most of us in CPW. She was in Phoenix wrestling
before and is a second generation wrestler, as she is the daughter of local wrestling
legend and CPW patron- Thor. She was brought in due to her reputation, and it worked.
Natalie came in and destroyed Natalie pretty much, nearly knocking her out with her
opening move, then in a dominant performance managed to lock Natalie in the sleeper
hold and cause her to pass out to become CPW Women’s champion. She’s held that belt
ever since and she’s beaten Shauna Shay, Nadia Sapphire and of course Natalie Wild
multiple times since winning the belt. It’s a fantastic achievement and even if the crowd
aren’t as behind her as before, after her turning on Mr Richards at Betrayal, Tori is still a
super dangerous opponent and has only been beaten one time and that was in a shocking
loss to CPW Superstars entrant Lucia. Let’s see what 2019 brings for Tori.
Lastly we have George who has had the most high profile success. He is the youngest of
the 3 but that hasn’t stopped him. He came in to answer Bashby’s open challenge back in
May. He came in and beat Bashby in impressive fashion and since then he hasn’t stopped.
He won the Academy championship on his first time out and beat Bashby again at
Betrayal in his contracted return match, as well as winning at History in the 6 man tag.
Since then he’s teamed with Stevie W and had great success, beating the Iron Dragons
and the Merseyside Murder Squad. His singles run has been great too, still unpinned and
not made to submit in his time here. His biggest turn of fortune came in the form of a
champ vs champ match against then Nextgen Champion Alex Conners. A man who has
had an impressive second half of the year. 3 matches went by with Alex and George won
all 3 and it won him the Nextgen Championship. So he entered the Xmas Bash with 2
belts. He sadly lost the belt in the fatal 4 way match to Tommbie, but I don’t think this is
the last of George’s success. He still has an academy belt to his name and a great
record. So 2019 can surely only bring great things too.
3. The NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship defence at Supershow
It’s a little known fact that in 2017 there was a show run by a company called Superstar
Promotions in conjunction with CPW. None of our boys were wrestling, but a lot were in
the crowd, and our very own senior referee Dale was the official, and Alex Conners was
timekeeper. This was the first time I actually saw anyone from CPW in person and they
all gave Dale a ton of support. At this show we had a bunch of ex WWE and and TNA
talent including Tommy Dreamer, Victoria and of course Nick Aldis. Nick wasn’t NWA
champion at this point, but he had a solid match against Bram at the show.
This wasn’t the end of the little collab that we had with Nick, as once he won the NWA
World’s heavyweight championship and essentially becoming the most successful British
wrestler in history. So after some contact and negotiations, we set up Nick Aldis with his
own show, the Nick Aldis Supershow that happened in February at the Binley Banqueting
Suite. The show itself had a 20 man Elimination where Tom Lindsay went coast to coast (by
hook or by crook) Jake Casanova took out all 3 Hillbillies by himself, Pizza Boy made his
last CPW appearance, Shaun Ruben made his debut and lot of other memorable ones.
Out of taste I’ll skip the obvious one. I say throw Elimination in this position too as
joint placing.
Now the match itself, Dan Evans got to challenge for the NWA championship in the
biggest match of his career so far. The match itself was hard hitting and closer than you
might expect. Showing Dan’s 10 years of experience being put to excellent use against a
much bigger and stronger foe. Of course with how Dan had been acting at that point it
was still really satisfying to see him get beaten up by someone bigger than he is. Nick
won the match by submission after locking Dan in a cloverleaf hold. It was a great match
and well worth the price of admission. We got a meet and greet after as well that we
took advantage of. Overall this was a fantastic show, and considering it was my second,
it opened my eyes to what CPW has the power to be, and that is magic.
2. The Superstars Project Season One
Superstars was an idea with management and trainers to see if we could take a
group of people with little or no ring experience and make them into CPW Academy
level wrestlers. The idea seemed crazy on paper, and it was, but if anyone could
pull it off, it was CPW, particularly Will Starr, FIFI and Tom Lindsay who
organised the training programme, with Mr Richards, Dale and Dominic overseeing it.
I’ve dedicated 3 whole blogs to this, so go check that out if you want to see about
it in detail, but here it is in brief. We had 9 matches with 9 superstars.
A mix of the biggest and best CPW has against 9 trainees in our own personal dream
matches. We all felt the adoration of the crowd, or their boos for those who decided
to turn bad. Some great in ring moments happened and some characters were
established. We had an electric crowd of over 200. One of the biggest draws CPW has
ever had. A lot of people in the crowd had got dressed up in their best to come out to
see us. They were all electric and really got into it no matter who was out there, really
getting behind our heroes and booing the villains. The CPW Galaxy regulars guiding them
with their creative and established chants. I thank all of the roster members who helped
take part in this to really put the project in full swing. To top it all off, we had former
WWE superstar, and one of the best in Canada, Rene Dupree on the show with us, closing
out the first half after the tag match broke down into chaos, beating Dan Evans.
All in all this show was just magic. I get a rush just thinking about this show, especially
the response I got. I am supposed to be unbiased here, but I am biased as I was involved
directly with the show. Lightning struck multiple times with this show. The fans left
happy, we all left happy and we all celebrated at training the next Monday. A fantastic
experience all round which is why Superstars is Number 2.
Before I get to number one, here are some quick honourable mentions.
The Smartest man’s streak- Sir Isaac Quentin III came into CPW back in 2017, and to this
day he has still never been pinned or made to submit. He won Adrenaline that year
which got him the Golden Ticket, which he cashed in on Will Starr after a tough match
with Scott Oberman (Then Seth Skyline) to win his first Nextgen Championship
He’s lost a handful of times since losing that belt at Summerfest 3. However this has
been by DQ or countout. He’s still undefeated and I still think this will be a tough task
for anyone to take him down. Let’s see how 2019 goes for him.
CPW on Demand- 2018 was the year we took all of our old archive footage and released
it as an on demand service through our Patreon page. It’s constantly being updated and
we even have new premium content added to it every week, be it promos, behind the
scenes bits or even episodes of the new hit series Dr Gage and Leyton Simms. I will
mention the online presence we have now with the CPW website and its updates. We
have my blog posts now and we have brand new merch up for sale including t-shirts for
all of your favourite stars. Can’t wait to see what else comes along.
The return of Disco Bert- Disco Bert was a mainstay in CPW a couple of years ago, main
eventing a History show and being one of the most popular stars in CPW History. In 2017
he was out with an injury and it took a slow road to recovery, but he came back at Ruler
of the Galaxy to take on Sir Isaac, and he won by a count out. Afterwards he said so he
can’t run away, there should be a no count out, no DQ match to settle the score once
and for all. I approve of this, we hope we see you again soon Bert.
The Chicken Club- How can I mention 2018 in CPW without a quick mention to the most
famous contingent of fans in CPW. The Chicken Club. They became this to strike back at
the Hillbillies after Alex Conners couldn’t keep his mouth shut. It’s odd to see wrestlers
have a rivalry with a group of fans, and it all came to a head at Summerfest 3 in a
special main event. A tug of war between the two sides that the Chicken Club ended up
winning. A spoon of vinegar of Alex’s sweet honey of victory in getting his Nextgen Belt.
Summerfest 3 itself needs a mention too. It was all going to plan, everyone was there,
we had it all set up and the heavens opened and we had to pull out due to safety
concerns. After a long and wet clean up operation the Performance Centre opened its
doors to us and let us have the show there. We went from, in the space of 3 hours from
having no show, to having a sold out room with some amazing matches. Also I made my
first CPW appearance as a ring announcer. This one is a special thanks to the fans for
making it all happen for us and for making what was a wash out into an evening of
magic.
Those have been my honourable mentions.
Finally number 1. Mr Richards wins the CPW Championship at History 5.
History 5 itself was a show of shocking moments.
Many of our heroes didn’t get the result they wanted. West and Joy’s fantastic tag run
came to an explosive end, Shiro had his final match in CPW lost out to the Hillbillies
despite the volume of his fans and Will Starr lost out to the dastardly Isaac Quentin III
in the British Wrestling Rules match. On top of all of this, with how low we all felt, after
riding so high from England beating Sweden in the World Cup on the same day, we had
one last hope to leave the show feeling like we were on Cloud 9. That was the Main
event, as Mr Richards with Dominic DeWinter in his corner, took on then CPW Champion
Tom Lindsay with Marcel in his corner in a Let’s go to War match. Which was in short,
a no holds barred, no DQ and no count out Hardcore match. Winner takes all, one man
would prevail. This half hour match was edge of your seat and so emotionally draining,
which is why it was on this list. But also the fact that this was CPW’s darkest hour so far.
Marcel had assembled a rogue’s gallery of wrestlers who had smashed their way through
our top good guys.
Mr Richards had been cleared to wrestle just one more match, and this was his only
shot. Risking his health and wellbeing to save CPW, and the championship. The match
was action packed and brutal. Tables, chairs and sledgehammers were all involved. It
was tense, hard hitting and in some times scary. These two did things to eachother that
could shorten a career. Mr Richards was suplexed on the wooden floor which caused him
to still hurt for weeks afterwards. Tom Lindsay showed tremendous toughness too and
this has to be noted. This all ended after Mr Richards hit Tom with a Rock Bottom
through a table followed by a second pedigree to get the pin for 3. The crowd, including
myself erupted in screams and cheers and it was the ultimate feel good moment to top
this momentous show. We all celebrated with Fifi firing a confetti cannon and the
children in the audience jumping in to ring for a photo with the new champion. It was a
moment that left the CPW Galaxy feeling lighter than air, the Lindsay era was finally
over and a past hero had risen again after risking it all, to save CPW from its darkest
hour. That’s the reason why I feel this match deserves to top this list. The journey we
took to get there and what happened at the final destination makes the main event of
History 5 my top moment of the year.
Well that’s my list for the greatest moments of CPW in 2018. Be sure to look out for my
most shocking moments list. Bring on 2019 and the Free show on the 19th of Jan.
For now this is
Frankie Summers signing off.
anyway, as he had his sights set on Mr Richards and his CPW championship. Up to this
point it wasn’t looking good at all for The Chosen One. However with 2 wins against
Justin Joy, one over Tom Lindsay and a spectacular over Drake Wynter got him noticed
enough to put him in title contention. Sure, he was unsucessful in the 4 way match but
he helped end Isaac’s reign with the belt. He got a shot at Get the Strap that was
unsucessful. It seemed to be going bad for Will, but after Mr Richards was made to
submit to the Beast at Betrayal, this left the playing field wide open for Will as he was
given a number one contenders spot for his effort throughout the year. First it came at
Xtreme Tidings where Will won by DQ, but he didn’t leave with the belt. Then at the big
Xmas Bash Will finally did it in an explosive match against the Beast, officiated of course
by Mr Richards. It was a triumphant moment for Will to finally, after all that has
happened to him. Being cost the Galaxy Ruler tournament and losing out on
championships numerous times amongst other things, Will finally got to the top of that
mountain, to become the CPW Champion for the first time. It’s not before time either.
Well done Will, we were all rooting for you and you delivered.
7. The return of Flash Morgan Webster

been by DQ or countout.
