FRANKIE SUMMERS BLOG #25 – SECRET SOCIETY

CPW Underground: Secret Society

*Warning, this will contain swearing and graphic descriptions of violence, discretion advised.

Welcome back CPW Galaxy, Frankie Summers here with another rundown of the events of our latest CPW show. That being the 16+ first show in the history of CPW, a more adult-themed show with more swearing, violence and carnage than ever before. Now we had a smaller audience this time as a result due to a lack of children in the audience. This gave it a more intimate feel. We came to you this time from Dhillon’s Brewery which is the chosen drinking hole for fans of Rugby and Football matches at the Ricoh Arena. It’s open every Friday and hosts private functions like this one. Brewery management loves wrestling and was fine with the chaos and destruction we bring with us.

I will apologise for the hard time and inconvenience that people had trying to find the location due to various issues, but for the people who did come along and did find the venue, we thank you for joining us. I also want to apologise for the sound and technical issues we also had during the show.

Dhillon’s has a wonderful selection of fine locally brewed beers and ales with local ingredients, all tasting as fresh as they can be, so for grown-ups who want a more grown-up beverage and want something different to try, drop in on Dhillon’s on a Friday night. They have drinks, entertainment and live music. The Arcade machine and the mini Super Nintendo are my personal favourite part.

We had a smaller 6 match card this time, we had 4 debuts and some returning favourites. We had Kat von Kaige taking on Mariah May, both travelling far to be with us, coming from Wales and London respectively. We got two surprise competitors who signed up for the open challenge by dropping their response online to CPW Management. Even I didn’t know who it was until they showed up. We still had to keep a bloodthirsty Tommbie separate from them, which was no easy feat.

We opened up with a match rundown, a plug for Superstars 3 and our usual rendition of Sweet Caroline. It was easier this time as I only had 3 sides of the crowd to interact with. An odd addition this time was a photographer at ringside, who came out with me. I didn’t know who he was, he had just appeared wearing a hoodie and a balaclava, like the druids from Tommbie’s entrance at History. It’s real dedication to dress like that in this heat to protect who you are. He had a very nice rig too and was taking some great photos throughout the show. He still sparked suspicion.

We started with a singles match for a potential place on the CPW Power rankings as the ‘Bully’ Jay J Roberts took on the ‘Sweet City Pimp’ Morgan Black. Both of these men have been upset for not being in the rankings on the last announcement, despite both having been number one contender for the CPW championship in recent months. Both were unsuccessful, with Morgan against former CPW Champion Kevin Isaac and Jay J against former Unified Champion Will Starr. While with Morgan’s match there was some trickery but it was a clear cut decision. With Jay J however, there was controversy. He’d hit Will with a sit-out powerbomb and Dominic Dewinter presuming victory asked for the bell to ring. However, they checked the stream to see what happened and Dale ruled the decision null and restarted the match. This lead to Will taking the advantage and winning the final fall. Both men were angry and vengeful and sought to take it out on each other. Immediately the fans turned on Jay J Roberts as he came out with a big Welsh flag and a confident demeanour.

Morgan just came out with his purposeful stride, ready to slap Roberts upside the head. The crowd were immediately put against Roberts him when Morgan got a Sheep Shagger chant going. It’s the chant you’ve all wanted to do, admit it. It was an even match as both of these men are big, tough and experienced and quite even in the ring. It was a display of power and brutality from Jay J and Morgan fought back with his powerful strikes, agility and superb timing. However, Morgan came up short as Jay J distracted Dale and hit a low blow on Morgan before hoisting him up for a sit-out powerbomb and getting the 3 counts. It was a sad state of affairs as the fans have wanted to see Morgan get his wind back and winning, getting him back onto the rankings. It wasn’t meant to be, but now Jay J cannot say that he is being snubbed by management, only by the fans.

Next was a grudge match as Golden Ticket holder Morris took on the ‘Emperor’ Drake Wynter. Drake has beaten Morris on two occasions before. Once in a tag team match on his big return and another in a singles match where Drake overcame everything that Morris could throw at him and still managed to pick up the win. Fresh off his win, smashing the unpinned streak of Sir Isaac Quentin III and winning the Golden Ticket, Morris was riding high and had unfinished business and that involved dethroning the emperor. This was as much a war as their last two encounters. It was back and forth, it was close and it wasn’t clear who was getting the advantage the whole time. It came to an end after Drake kicked out after a stunner and shocked, Morris fought back, but Drake took advantage of the lapse in concentration and fired back trying to end it, however Morris took his one chance, smashed Drake with the Samoan Drop (I’ve started calling it The Dead End) and finally getting Drake down for the 3. This was a decent bit of retribution for Morris as he finally took down Drake after months of trying. We will soon see who steps up next and if the golden ticket will be a factor.

Next, we had an 8 man tag team sole survivor match as Team Madness represented by New Blood champ Leyton Simms and Bashby along with Lucky Bowden and Casey Wild took on James Cross and Ryan Lance of the G6, as they teamed up with Mr Ace and the debuting Jordan Blaze. Mr Ace wrestled on the last show as part of my team, Superstars Inc. Naturally, I’m disgusted by this turn from Mr Ace, it wasn’t unexpected but I was still annoyed by him turning his back on myself, Harry and Oddball, I let him know this before announcing his partners. He didn’t care. Jordan is a bulky long-haired bruiser, he has ink and attitude. He has been on the local scene for a while but sought a new challenge here in CPW. Wanting a head start by joining the G6. Ryan and James are their usual antagonistic selves, taunting our heroes. Leyton is still riding high after winning back the New Blood belt at History 6 from Iron Serb and Bashby has been more determined than ever after taking on and losing to George on 2 occasions for the Godiva title. Casey and Lucky have been down on their luck in terms of wins in CPW lately as well but if it meant getting a crack at the G6, they were up for this. Leyton came out with a choice expression regarding Dr Gage’s profession and knowing what the G6 when he sees them. It was funny, but if Dr Gage is that kind of Doctor, why on earth is he our psychotherapist, and what the hell was in those pills he gave me?
The eliminations in this match came thick and fast between both teams after a while. Casey and Lucky were taken out in fast succession, after bravely fighting for a few minutes but were taken out by the G6 ganging up on them. This left Leyton and Bashby to take on 4 people. Bashby was beaten up by the G6 but Leyton was tagged in and went crazy; quickly taking out Mr Ace and Jordan Blaze. Then tagging out Bashby who got taken out and pinned by Ryan Lance. Leyton then took out Ryan Lance. This left James Cross and Leyton Simms as the last two. Dominic Dewinter made his presence felt yet again by distracting the referee while James Cross hit Leyton with the low blow and rolled him up to get the win and become sole survivor for his team. James grabbed the new blood belt and stood on Leyton, holding it aloft, like he’d just won it. This was another disgusting display from the G6, showing that when we knock them down they only seem to get stronger. This isn’t over between Team Madness and the G6. Let’s hope that justice will prevail in the end and we can overcome the G6 sooner rather than later.

Next, we had the interval as I was joined by Casey Wild, Lucky Bowden, Mariah May and Morris for fan access. After this, Morris stayed in the ring and Dale grabbed the mic after it was fixed and called Simon, who handles logistics and Katie who runs the snack stand to the ring. It was to announce that it was Simon and Katie’s 18th wedding anniversary. Happy Anniversary Simon and Katie, and thank you for all that you do for us.

So next we get onto the second half and the moment you had all been waiting for. The Hardcore open challenge match as Tommbie took on any fool brave enough to face him in a no holds barred match with weapons and no rules. I introduced Tommbie who came out with his baseball bat Shelley II and charged around the ring, angered and howling for blood. I had to keep him on the level while we found out who his opponent was. It turns out that the challenge was accepted online via email to CPW management. Even I didn’t know who it was. Then, Harry Taylor came from the back to give me a note with what was going on in the match. It turns out that Tommbie had been given 2 opponents on this night. The first was a man from Dudley called Mickey Rowley, one of a pair of wrestling brothers who made the trip to get himself out there and get a chance to hurt someone new. This battle was quick. Tommbie smacked him about a bit which frustrated Rowley. He darted outside and got a chair. Tommbie tanked a couple of hits before using it himself, taking out Rowley with it before hitting the Occult Assault for the win.

Tommbie yelled “Come on! Who’s next?!” Before I checked the back to see that his opponent hadn’t fled in fear. He hadn’t and that man was his next opponent, Troy Jones. He was also from Dudley and was here for similar reasons. This match was one of the most violent we have seen in CPW, ever. Chairs were involved. Tommbie pulled out a piece of barbed wire and wrapped it around his leg before “hulking up” and whipping Jones off, hitting a big boot, followed by a leg drop which ended in a 2 count. Wanting to step up his game, Tommbie ripped off the barbed wire and grabbed the bat, digging it into Troy’s head which caused a mild bleed. Troy wouldn’t give up however, so Tommbie stepped it up again by grabbing one of the brewery barrels used to transport beer. Tommbie used his immense strength to haul it above his head to the ring. Tommbie ended up suplexing Troy onto the barrel which made everyone in the crowd wince. This isn’t malleable or flexible, this is a solid piece of industrial steel. It has no give and has no preference for anyone. If you land on it, it’s going to hurt you badly. This was the beginning of the end as Tommbie pulled Troy up for the Occult Assault, drove him into the steel chair and got the win. I announced him as the winner and Tommbie celebrated. However, this was short-lived as the Imperial Dragon came out while Tommbie’s back was turned. Dragon took advantage and spent the next 5 minutes violently attacking Tommbie. He smashed him with chairs, Tommbie’s own bat by digging the wrap of wire into Tommbie’s forehead, and the Kendo stick, breaking it over his shoulder. Dragon has broken that stick before when he has hit others with it. He didn’t hit the others (including me) anywhere near as forcefully as he hit Tommbie. That impact echoed throughout the brewery, followed by stunned silence. Yet Tommbie barely made a sound, a testament to how tough he is.

A fan took exception to this, leading to a tussle between himself and Dragon. Dragon, after composing himself (at least as much as he can) then did the most sadistic thing I have seen him do and considering what, for the lack of a better term, a cruel bastard the Dragon is this is saying a lot. He pulled out a wooden board covered in barbed wire and smashed Tommbie straight through it. It took myself and Dale to try and get the board of barbed wire off Tommbie without it cutting him and causing more damage. Tommbie got up to his feet in a groggy rage and yelled to Dragon “SORRY YOU’RE DEAD!” Before grabbing Shelley II and angrily staggering to the back.

The fact that Tommbie only needed minimal help to get back to his feet after a brutal beating like that shows that maybe Imperial Dragon has bitten off more than he can chew, even with those big jaws of his. It also shows how tough Tommbie is, which we knew already, but we’ve never seen him take anything like this in CPW. I think next time we do a show like this, the result will be chaotic, destructive and bloody. I am going to be taking cover when these two men finally rumble one on one.

Next, we had the ladies match as Mariah May took on Kat von Kaige as both women made their CPW debut, adding to our Women’s roster. Both of these ladies came a long way to compete in CPW, which shows how coveted our CPW Women’s and Lineal Women’s championships are. They attract attention from far afield and rightly so. We’ve had some fantastic women in CPW in the past and have a lot now. Management passed me a note to make the match a number one contender’s match for Lucia Lee’s CPW Women’s championship.

Kat got a cold response from the crowd, but she has self-identified as the villain so it’s clear she wasn’t here to make friends. Mariah May got a better response as they made her feel more welcome. I have seen Kat on the scene before, as she wrestles in Wales and other places in the Midlands. She wrestles a technical style with some high risk, high impact holds. Mariah is also a technical specialist, and this feels so unprofessional of me to say, being a journalist, but I am unfamiliar with Miss May’s body of work. I know she’s wrestled for Progress Wrestling in the past. It’s a promotion any indie fan worth their salt knows is a massive deal with some of the best wrestlers in the country currently there, and have been there in the past. Too many for me to list, but some of my personal favourites are there. Mariah has also been interviewed by WWE and gone to one of their tryouts, which shows that this young woman is the real deal.

This match, while not filled with danger and high impact moments or beating each other senseless. It opened with a technical wrestling showcase, showing both women’s grappling skills, neither woman wanted to give an inch over the other. Back and forth grappling with Mariah using her height and Kat with her trickiness and experience. Mariah was worked to the corner but Kat wasted too much time strutting around being pleased with herself before whipping Mariah to the corner. Mariah countered by leaping over Kat, arm dragging her out of the corner, building momentum with a low running dropkick, a beautiful handspring elbow in the corner, followed by a mare out of the corner, then a rolling neck snap, followed by a 2 count. Mariah tried to stay on top, but Kat raked the eyes, putting Mariah on the mat, before methodically strutting around in between choking with the foot on the ropes, stomping and arguing with Tango.

Mariah fought back with strikes but Kat kept on top with her own, still posing and being pleased with herself. Then Kat showed her nasty side by charging in with knee strikes in the corner, followed by a Jawjacker. Which resulted in a one-count after taking her time to cover. The tables turned when Mariah fought her way up with a Jawjacker of her own, followed by strikes in the corner, then a neckbreaker which ended in a 2 count. Kat swung it in her favour again with a couple of cheap shots, then a unique cartwheel leg drop. This only got a 2. Kat, now frustrated choked Mariah on the ropes again but Mariah fought back with a whip, resulting in a barrage of moves. A kick, an Enziguiri, then a discus forearm, followed by a big boot. She measured Kat up for the charge in the corner, Kat dodged and went for a hit of her own but Mariah swung out through the ropes, headbutted Kat, knocking her down and went to the top rope. A cross-body press got a 2 count. She set up the finish after locking Kat in a standing Octopus stretch which Kat broke out of. Kat struck Mariah into the corner, charged in with a running forearm, then 2 running knee strikes which put Mariah down. Kat pinned Mariah getting both feet on the ropes to get the 3 count.

This was a titanic effort by both of these young women, but the match result has been tainted as Kat had to cheat to win. Mariah didn’t have her beaten as such, but it took underhanded tactics for the match to end in her favour. I know she’s the Vintage Villainess and that’s part and parcel, but it hasn’t exactly endeared the crowd to her, unlike Mariah. I would have loved to have seen either one of these women take on Lucia Lee for her CPW Women’s championship as both of them are certainly good enough, but Kat von Kaige wins out. She will face Lucia in one of her toughest challenges to date. I know that Kat will use her mean streak against Lucia, but Lucia has shown she has one of her own. This match will be explosive! Take cover!

Lastly was the big one, the winner takes all match as Godiva champion George took on CPW Lineal Heavyweight champion Will Starr. This was seemingly the chance to put the final nail in the coffin of the G6 and take the last of their gold away from them. It seems like a dead cert that Will Starr would come out the victor on paper, but never underestimate George. He’s beaten many people on the CPW roster and has one of the best win/loss records in CPW History. He clocked in the fastest time to become a triple crown champion, something that has not been achieved by many people in CPW. Will Starr, Tom Lindsay and Jake Casanova are the only ones who spring to mind, and they’re all CPW veterans. George has only been with CPW 15 months and is still technically a rookie due to his age, but that makes the feat more impressive. Will, however, is the giant killer, the man who has taken on and overcome pretty much all who have opposed him. This was going to be a great match regardless as Will and George, teacher and student faced off in the ultimate test for George.

It started with technical wrestling from both men but it soon turned nasty as George clocked Will in the head so hard that it busted him wide open. His face had the crimson mask in no time at all. Will kept fighting however and tried to put George away, but it was to no avail as Dominic Dewinter jumped in and attacked Will Starr to end the match by a DQ, both men would retain their belts this way. Then Dominic made the call to bring the photographer to get in the ring and make a spectacle of what just happened. After a few snaps, the photographer took off his balaclava. It was none other than the leader of the G6, Kevin Isaac. They made the call out to the back to bring out the rest of the G6, and they tore down to the ring to take care of Will, in a fair 5 on one deal. Then after I called for help, from the back, I was answered and I held open the curtain and the other bad guys on the roster came out in succession, the rear being held up by Imperial Dragon. They stormed the ring to work on Will, but then the good guys lead by Team Madness tore out and started brawling with them all in the ring. The action soon spilt outside and they took up the space between the entranceway and the ring. Even I had to get involved because I couldn’t stand to see my friends outnumbered and see Mr Ace who I have been shown to have an issue with standing there not doing anything as if he could get away with not brawling in a mass brawl. It was a blur, all I know is I was attacked from behind by Jordan Blaze and he and Ace double-teamed me before trying to throw me into the barrels on set. I stopped myself and smacked Mr Ace through the curtain. Blaze dragged me out because I wouldn’t go. This gave the G6 to have the final word.

Afterwards, I staggered out and fell into the ring. They’d lay into me backstage before I came back to the ring and I ended up falling into the ring because of it. I wrapped up the show. I know I use the term darkest hour a lot, but that’s what it’s verging on. It’s no longer just Will Starr with Team Madness with a few others thrown in against the G6, it’s a war between good and evil that involves the entire roster. It’s all going to come to a head soon and one side will have to prevail.

The future doesn’t look bright for the side of good as more seem to be turning to the side of the G6. It’s frustrating, but we need to back off and regroup. My efforts have failed so far, but we have to turn this around and we need unity on our side as the G6 does. But for now, taking a step back maybe the honourable thing to do while we think of a plan.

For now, this is Frankie Summers signing off. We will see you on August 3rd for CPW Live presents Heatwave!
